Payroll and Benefits Agent

Job Summary

Reporting to the Payroll and Benefits Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for the complete payroll processing of salaried, unionized and retired employees.

Main Responsibilities


  • Complete payroll processing for all salaried, unionized and retired employees while ensuring the compliance of payments in relation to the clauses of the various collective agreements and procedures in force;
  • Track all statutory holidays, birthdays, vacations, etc. and this for unionized employees. Ensure that all these registers are updated and that they comply with the clauses of the various collective agreements and procedures in force;
  • Carry out all bank transfers as well as all payment requests (taxes, union dues, wage garnishments, etc.);
  • Produce employment records for all salaried employees, unionized employees and retirees, as well as for all students and interns hired during the summer period;
  • Act as a resource person for all questions relating to the operation of employee payroll. Meet and support all managers who must perform transactions in the payroll system for employees;
  • Perform all operations relating to the opening and closing of employee compensation files;
  • Prepare government remittances including records of employment, T4, etc. Balance government and other remittances;
  • Participate in the fiscal year end process;
  • Prepare various payroll reports; including the report of hours worked and paid, overtime and short and long term absenteeism, etc.

Qualifications and Experiences Required


  • College diploma in Administration, or Human Resources Management or Accounting;
  • Accreditation with the Canadian Payroll Association would be a considerable asset;
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a similar position in a manufacturing environment;
  • Experience in a unionized environment; able to interpret collective agreements;
  • Knowledge in the field of payroll and various Canadian provincial legislations;
  • Knowledge of Word software, intermediate level;
  • Knowledge of Excel software, advanced level;
  • Knowledge of Kronos and Navision software, advanced level;
  • Bilingualism both oral and written (French and English);
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize;
  • Aptitude in decision making;
  • Possess a team spirit;
  • Demonstrate a sense of responsibility and demonstrate autonomy;
  • Demonstrate a concern for quality;
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage priorities;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
