Reporting to the Process Superintendent, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for maintaining a coordinated, safe and efficient shift operation of the sugar beet processing area. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for maintaining overall plant processing operations and executing corporate and plant metrics and guidelines. The supervisor is also responsible for a crew of maintenance personnel during the inter-campaign period. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper safety practices and policies are being followed by all employees;
  • Ensure Production schedules  and Quality Standards are met through efficient operations;
  • Able to make decisions regarding quality control and operational needs;
  • Identify operating issues, trouble shoot and resolve in order to adhere to operating targets;
  • Ensure plant equipment is reliable through preventive maintenance. Ensure environmental guidelines are met;
  • During inter-campaign period, manage a crew and help with the preventive maintenance of the plant;
  • Direct and assist shift operators in their duties through proper training and procedures;
  • Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties and responsibility;
  • Observe and coach  employee activities to ensure company policies and procedures  are being followed by maintaining morale and discipline;
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching;
  • Addressing and mediate employee conflicts & handle employee issues as they arise;
  • Promote an atmosphere in the plant of safety, respect, professionalism, unity, and adherence of guidelines;
  • Work w/ other departments to service the end customer. Promote continuous improvement of operations. Eliminate waste added activities;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.


  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma. Journeyman or Ticketed Tradesman would be considered an asset;
  • 3-5 years of relevant supervisory experience in Food Manufacturing. Preference will be given to candidates according to experience;
  • Possess experience with managing large teams to achieve organizational goals in a timely fashion;
  • Good interpersonal skills and a passion to manage teams in an effective manner to achieve organizational goals;
  • Experience managing unionized workforce is preferred;
  • Safety conscious record and attitude;
  • Computer Literate;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong sense of accountability, high level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information. Autonomy/rigour/relentless/proactive. Demonstrates leadership in living and promoting Lantic’s Mission and Values;
  • Ability to act as a coach and mentor, good stress management, ability to multi-task and organize his day to day priorities / activities;
  • Ability to work with other departments in order to resolve issues;
  • Able to work rotating shifts.
