Director, Human Resources (Sugar)

Job Summary

The Director, Human Resources contributes to the company’s success in achieving business goals by participating to the design and execution of people strategies that ensure the presence of an engaged and skilled workforce to deliver on the business strategies and objectives. As a trusted business partner of the business, the HR Director will leverage their knowledge of Human Resources, understanding of emerging issues, business acumen and best practices to identify, develop, and implement innovative HR solutions for the sugar segment of the business, both on a strategic and tactical basis.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective and efficient overall HR management for all 5 sugar sites (Vancouver, Taber, 2 sites in Toronto and Montreal including the company’s corporate head office)
  • Lead, motivate and inspire the success of a team of 3 HR Business Partners (Montreal, Taber, Vancouver) as well as the Corporate Nurse (Montreal) and the Talent Acquisition Specialist (Montreal).
  • Provide counsel and guidance to HR Business Partners to ensure ongoing positive and constructive labour relations at all unionized facilities. The Director, Human Resources is accountable for labour negotiations by either acting as company spokesperson or by providing direction to the responsible HRBP.
  • Promote and maintain a corporate culture focused on employee engagement;
  • Ensure efficient talent acquisition strategies and processes are in place to attract talented individuals to the organization
  • In conjunction with the Manager, Talent Development and Technology, develops and implements various policies and/or training programs to enhance employee engagement
  • Ensures that adequate systems and processes are in place using HR technology or other means.
  • Acts as HR Business Partner to the VP of Operations & Supply Chain
  • Ensure that succession/employee development plans are in place;
  • Manage annual budget
  • any other HR related matter

Qualifications and Experiences Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources management
  • Minimum 10-year experience in HR management/business partnership in manufacturing industry, ideally in a multi-site management role;
  • Bilingualism (perfectly fluent in English and French);
  • Member of the Ordre CRHA-CRIA
  • Experience in labour relations including acting as company spokesperson during negotiations
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization, whether on a strategic or tactical level
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills
  • Results oriented, strong sense of accountability
  • Business Savvy
  • Experience in compensation management an asset (including knowledge of defined benefit pension plans)
  • Good computer skills (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel or other HR software);
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills;
  • Ability to create a vision and motivate staff;
  • Ability to make sound decisions;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Good listening and coaching skills;
