Job Summary

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer is primarily responsible for Capital Project Management from conceptual feasibility through commissioning including but not limited to conceptual designs, capital authorization requests, scope development, planning, scheduling, cost monitoring, interface and collaboration with operations, executing projects within budget and schedule. Also, the Project Engineer provides routine Technical support to Operations and Maintenance, problem solving, troubleshooting and equipment suppliers. Finally, the Engineer also interfaces with the safety, quality, environmental, purchasing and finance teams to ensure project engineering functions are performed effectively.

Main Responsibilities


  • Perform and document safety observations and hazards assessments;
  • Prepare, plan and manage annual capital projects including justifications, budgets, authorization documents;
  • Project Management of capital projects-planning, execution, project controls, cost/schedule control, RFP development, contractor management/supervision);
  • Project performance management KPI’s monitoring reporting and controlling;
  • Review equipment design, troubleshooting mechanical problems, recommending solutions;
  • Identify return on investment opportunities;
  • Application of codes, standards and regulatory compliance specifications;
  • Assist maintenance, operations, safety, quality, environmental and purchasing, departments with engineering services as required;
  • Manage plant technical records including maintenance of up-to-date drawings and equipment files ;
  • Coordinate contract engineering services when required;
  • Select and supervise contractors involved in facility projects;
  • Provide capital projects monthly scorecard forecasting;
  • Prepare project progress reports;
  • Prepare weekly cost summary updates;
  • Coordinates implementation of risk recommendations from underwriters;
  • Ensure technical information, engineering drawings are updated;

Qualifications and Experiences Required


  • Mechanical Engineering University degree, P. Eng designation;
  • PMP certification is an asset;
  • Site construction management experience;
  • Experience managing multiple projects;
  • Experience with Engineering drawing software  such as autocad;
  • Ability to create project control reports;
  • Preparation of Gantt charts for project planning and scheduling, pre-planning and resource forecasting;
  • Knowledge and application of applicable provincial codes, standards and regulatory compliance requirements;
  • High proficiency with English language (oral &written);
  • High proficiency with MS office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) & MS Project ;
  • Ability to network within the province for engineers & contractors;
