Commodity / Trader Analyst

Job Summary

The candidate will be responsible of the sales and marketing of the company’s agriculture by-products throughout its Canadian plants. He or she will also be assisting in the daily trading and hedging activities. The Commodity Trader will perform a variety of analytical functions and will have a significant interaction with the finance department for daily, weekly and monthly reporting. He or she will also be responsible of coordinating all incoming vessel activities and ensuring the correct level of inventory.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales & marketing of its agriculture by-products to domestic and international markets – P/L responsibilities
  • Develop risk management trading strategies for currency to create revenue - P/L responsibility
  • Develop and execute strategies to reduce EBITDA exposure on budget and forecast 
  • Developing and maintaining a client portfolio
  • Execution of futures for hedging customer pricing purpose
  • Ensure daily risk exposure reports are accurate and prepared in a timely fashion
  • Provide market information to the sales department and clients
  • Interface with local planning, logistics, operations and QA
  • Run month end activities and summarize in a report format
  • Support quality non-conformance and communication with suppliers
  • Laytime calculation and demurrage/dispatch settlement
  • Verifying shipping documents
  • Liaison with trading desks and port agents to ascertain cargo readiness
  • Monitor market conditions
  • Perform special projects as assigned
  • Traveling to conferences and/or visiting clients

Qualifications and Experiences Required

  • University degree in finance, accounting and/or International Business
  • Minimum 5 years in a similar type of position
  • Commodity and futures trading experience in currency, and energy sector preferred.
  • Exposure to marine shipping sector beneficial
  • Experience using common market risk methodologies – hedging, options
  • Capacity to analyze information and to provide solutions
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and PP) 
  • Advanced Excel user (pivot table, Vlookup)
  • Good communication skills in both French, English and Spanish an asset
  • Results oriented
  • Organizational, planning and follow-up skills 
  • Team player who has the discipline to work along and meet pre-defined deadlines
  • Ability to use initiative and problem solve
  • Ability to prioritize and work under pressure
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Multi-focused, able to handle several activities simultaneously
