Quality Assurance & Environment Technician

Job Summary

Lantic is currently recruiting for the permanent position of Quality Assurance & Environment Technician based at our Vancouver Refinery. The position reports to the Manager, Quality Assurance, Food Safety. The incumbent is a self-motivated, conscientious worker that is team oriented and prioritizes on assuring that the product meets food safety, quality and environmental requirements. The employee performs a variety of functions including sample collection of in-process and final products; chemical, physical and microbial  analysis; environmental sampling and testing; Certificates of Analyses generation and distribution to customers; putting non-compliant products on hold and investigating non-conformances; responding to customer inquiries and investigating complaints; participating in the HACCP team; creating monthly reports for management; and, reviewing and updating laboratory documentation. Typical working hours are dayshift although some flexibility will be required as there will be once a week early morning shift and some amount of (paid) weekend work. The employee follows a set of processes to ensure adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP), food safety rules, product quality standards with personal and team safety at top of mind.

 

Main Responsibilities


  • Sample products and perform all tests required to generate Certificates of Analyses on a daily basis;
  • Sample and test environmental effluents to ensure compliance with all environmental regulations;
  • Equipment calibration and troubleshooting;
  • Work independently for at least one (1) 3am-11am shift per week;
  • Put non-conforming products on hold;
  • Perform data entry, compile monthly reports and convert physical records into digital reports;
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints;
  • Investigate issues of non-conformance;
  • Communicate with and support all required departments as needed;
  • Participate in the HACCP team and maintain HACCP documentation;
  • Maintain a clean laboratory environment;
  • Any other QA / QC activities when required.

Qualifications and Experiences Required


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Technology or Engineering or related Science field (including Chemical or Environmental engineering, Microbiology, Biology, or Biotechnology);
  • Minimum of five (5) year of work experience in a food process, quality assurance or related industry laboratory;
  • Good knowledge of HACCP and GFSI recognized schemes;
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office suite (intermediate to advanced);
  • Knowledge of Maximo, Navision and/or SharePoint is an asset;
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written);
  • Safety conscious and possess understanding of safety rules;
  • Strong sense of responsibility;
  • Good interpersonal and communicating skills;
  • Good planning and organizational skills;
  • Manage and prioritize multiple tasks
